Problem: Why aren't backups occuring?
Problem: Why have files appeared in the 'failed backup' list?
Problem: My archive is getting too large but I don't want to increase the size of my account. Is there anything I can do?
Problem: e-Safe won't work with my new firewall, what can I do about this?

Problem: Why aren't backups occuring?
Action:
  1. Make sure the computer is turned on and connected to the Internet at the backup start tiime.
  2. Check if files have changed - After the initial full backup, e-Safe will only backup new and changed files. So, while e-Safe will check your computer every night for new files, it will only back up if new ones exist.
  3. If you know you have created or changed files on your computer, are those directories selected for backup?
Click on the 'Backup Selection' button to show the directories selected for backup. Make any changes that now apply and click the exit button. You will be prompted to save your changes.
  4. Check the amount of free hard disk space on the computer. If the amount of hard disk space is too low it will be difficult for backups to complete properly. [Also see large file backup.]
  5. Have you installed a new firewall that may be impeding the backup process? [See - Firewalls and e-Safe.]
  6. Make sure you are running the latest version of e-Safe - Periodically service upgrades will be released that incorporate new features or security measures. Check the daily backup report for alerts about new service upgrades. A link on the report will lead you through the simple upgrade process.

  7. File access - Some applications lock files so that no other application or user can access them. This most frequently happens with database files or email systems which need to be closed to backup properly.
If you suspect this is the case, the next time a backup is scheduled make sure the file is closed on your computer.
