Three things
to consider...
1. Operating System Requirements: To eliminate the guesswork
for operating system requirements, baselines have been
determined for each of these:
Windows 98: 32-64MB, Windows 2000 Pro: 64-128MB, and Windows
XP: 128-256MB (we recommend 512); And Vista 1GB.
Upgrading to this baseline is the best place to start.
2. Hardware: The peripherals attached to your computer can
be key indicators of memory demand.
CD-RW drives, scanners, and video cards are often used in
conjuction with memory intensive applications.
3. Usage Patterns: Some users demand more functionality out
of a program than others. Whether you're using word processing,
email, page layout,
Photoshop, or 3D modeling, the memory requirements depend
on how many instances of an application are open and how
much of
the program you utilize. A good rule of thumb is to check
the size of the files you use and allow for 3-5 times that
size in memory.
